Inmate caught with drug detox pill
A Butler County Prison inmate finds himself in more trouble after he was recently caught with a drug detox pill, authorities said.
Prison officers, acting on a tip, allegedly found two half pieces of an opiate-based suboxone tablet taped to the inside of James R. Gottron's inmate identification wristband.
The plastic band includes the inmate's photograph and other identifying information.
County detectives on Friday charged Gottron, 35, of Cranberry Township with possession of a controlled substance by an inmate, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.
Prison officials searched him Jan. 29 upon getting information he had the drug, court documents said.
Investigators suspect Gottron got the pill, commonly used for treatment of addiction to heroin or the potent painkiller OxyContin, from another unknown prisoner.
Detective Pat Cannon said no one else has been charged.
Gottron has been in the prison since March 2009, stemming from an escape conviction.
He was arrested for escape in 2007, authorities said, after cutting off an electronic monitoring bracelet and fleeing his home. He was on house arrest for a previous criminal case at the time.
