BMH posts $13M profit for 2006

The Butler Health System has had "eight years of substantial growth," according to Anne Krebs, chief financial officer.

A financial highlight report for 2006 for the health system was released Tuesday.

Krebs said the health system earnings have outpaced expenses in 2006 by $13 million, with revenue at $163 million and expenses at $150 million.

Krebs reported these 2006 financial details:

• Admissions-to-date at Butler Memorial Hospital are 13,409, which is just below last year's total admissions of 13,759.

• Total in-hospital patient days are 66,877, up from 2005's 66,441.

• Total outpatient visits are up by almost 20,000 visits, from last year's 382,756 to 400,007 for 2006 so far.

She said the system has spent $11 million on care of the poor and underinsured; $4.5 million on medical, infrastructure and outpatient facilities, and $1.1 million for training and employee education.

The hospital is gearing up for its $140 million project to build and renovate the current East Brady Street campus in Butler, to enhance and expand outpatient services and to upgrade the system's information technology.

Ken DeFurio, interim president and chief executive officer, said Monday he hopes construction on campus to be under way by fall 2007.
