Girl gets wish, meets Miley

Miley Cyrus

PITTSBURGH — A nine-year-old girl from Mars was part of a special celebration Wednesday when her wish to meet teen singer and actress Miley Cyrus was granted in Los Angeles as part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation's first World Wish Day.

Jenna Harrison met Cyrus along with 29 other wish children at The Grove, an entertainment, dining and shopping district. She had a private meet-and-greet with the star of Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana" and motion picture "The Last Song," and she attended a special World Wish Day celebration featuring Cyrus, according to a Make-A-Wish news release.

Jenna is the daughter of Kristy and Jeffrey Harrison of Adams Township. She attends Mars Elementary School.

"It's a privilege for me to make their wishes come true and get my good on in such a heartfelt way," Cyrus said in the release.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation will mark World Wish Day today with wish-granting celebrations throughout the United States and in 35 other countries.

Today is the 30th anniversary of the wish that sparked a global wish-granting movement and the creation of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. A young leukemia patient was granted his wish to be a police officer in Phoenix that day.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

In 2009, the foundation granted nearly 20,000 wishes, more than 13,000 for children in the United States and almost 7,000 for children elsewhere.
