OAKLAND TWP — No people were injured but a dog died during a structure fire Wednesday morning in an Oakland Township home, authorities said.

An Oneida Valley Fire Department official said a woman returned home after leaving for a short time to find smoke and fire coming from a home at 334 Old East Butler Road.

Firefighters at the scene said the fire was predominantly in the kitchen area of the home, but information on the cause was not immediately available. Fire crews extinguished the flames using water. They began fighting the fire from the exterior of the home, as flames were spreading from windows upon their arrival.

The woman did not want to be identified or interviewed. Neighbors at the scene offered a place for her to stay, if needed.

The East Butler Volunteer Fire Department was first at the scene and was followed by the Oneida Valley Fire Department. Other departments at the scene included the Herman Volunteer Fire Company, Chicora Volunteer Fire Department, Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service.

The fire was reported around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.
