More information released on Thursday crash in Butler Township

Butler Township police have released more information on a rollover crash that required the county’s hazmat team on Thursday, May 15.

Police said Damanmian J. Terry, 53, of Winston-Salem, N.C., was driving at around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Pittsburgh Road and Decatur Drive when his vehicle, carrying about 50 gallons of diesel fuel, flipped over.

Butler Township Volunteer Fire District chief Mike Schmidt described the vehicle as having the front of a pickup truck with a large utility box on the back similar to a service truck.

Terry was uninjured in the crash after air bags did not deploy, according to Schmidt. Terry was charged with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol among other summary traffic offenses and recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.168%. The legal limit in Pennsylvania is 0.08%.

Schmidt said crews were on the scene for about two hours cleaning the spilled diesel. He said fire crews carry about five bags of absorbent material similar to cat litter and Butler County Hazmat Materials Team 100 brought about a dozen additional bags.

Other responding organizations included Butler Bureau of Fire and Butler Ambulance Service.
