Police: Butler bicyclist charged following hit-and-run crash with pedestrian
A 77-year-old man was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital after being hit by a Butler man riding a bicycle down Main Street, according to police.
Lee Hodgins, 57, was charged with felony accident involving injury following the May 5 crash at the intersection of North Main Street and Locust Street. Police said Hodgins left the scene of the crash and did not remember what happened when interviewed later.
Police said the responded to the incident and found Butler Ambulance Service on scene treating the 77-year-old man, who was then taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with serious injuries.
Police concluded the man and two other individuals were crossing the street around 4:20 p.m. when Hodgins ran into him. Police used camera footage to track Hodgins to his apartment where they found him with minor injuries to his elbows and a minor cut under his right eye.
Hodgins is out on a $25,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is pending.
