Officials award contract for fixes
The Butler County commissioners Wednesday awarded a $250,000 contract to Gray Consulting of Butler to design plans to repair the government center and courthouse.
The fixes include the replacement of rusting exterior panels on the government center and correcting water problems in the courthouse.
The only other proposal was $314,083 from Weber Murphy Fox from Erie.
Work at the courthouse includes repairing water damage to the basement and walls, as well as redirecting rainwater from entering the building.
An air conditioning system also would be installed.
Filming gets OK
The commissioners granted permission for the Netflix series “Mindhunter” to be filmed in the courthouse.
County solicitor Mike English said the production company Em Ache Productions, assumed all liabilities and costs for filming on county property.
“We’re covered,” English said.
Tom Holman, deputy county court administrator, confirmed the company also is covering all costs associated with filming.
The production crew is to film later this month at a time and date when county offices are closed.
Senior aides
The commissioners approved a six-month extension for the CareerLink senior aide program.
Larry Garvin, vice president of Career T.R.A.C.K., said the extension was needed until the U.S. Department of Labor names a new national sponsor for the program through a grant competition.
Under the extension, Senior Service America will continue sending the county funds to support the program, which started in the 1970s.
The $79,494 cost covers 19 aides who gain experience and training working in various fields.
