Students get exclusive invite
ADAMS TWP — Students at Mars Elementary School will get a first look at the latest Walt Disney movie.
The school’s name has landed the students an exclusive invitation to the Pittsburgh premiere of “Mars Needs Moms,” which opens nationwide on March 11.
Principal Bob Zaccari told the Mars School Board Tuesday night that a Disney representative contacted him three weeks ago to request the school’s participation in the Pittsburgh event.
The premiere, one of a handful planned for major cities, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills in Frazer Township.
School board members were delighted as Zaccari explained Mars Elementary is the only school nationwide invited to attend the movie’s premiere.
“This is just phenomenal,” said board member Christine Stroup.
Zaccari said he will send home with students a letter today to their parents with a form to list how many tickets each family needs for the 3-D movie.
Zaccari said 394 seats are available at the mall’s IMAX Theatre, and he will have a random drawing this week to fairly distribute the tickets should there be more than 394 requests.
Zaccari said Disney will provide each student with a T-shirt that trumpets, “I’m from Mars, Pa.”
He said a Disney official saw the school district mentioned on the website msnbc.com during the lead-up to the Super Bowl, and suggested that marketers invite students to the premiere of the movie.
The elementary school has 720 students in the second, third and fourth grades.
“It’s extremely exciting,” Zaccari said. “The kids are going to love it.”
Seth Green and Joan Cusack lend their voices to “Mars Needs Moms,” an animated film created by the teams behind the Disney hits “A Christmas Carol” and “Polar Express.”
According to the website imdb.com, the animated movie’s plot surrounds a boy named Milo, who gains a deeper appreciation for his mother after Martians come to Earth to take her away.
