SAXONBURG — The South Butler Primary School's Parent Teacher Organization will host a blood drive from 4 to 8:15 p.m. today in the school's cafeteria, 328 Knoch Road.

The drive is being held in honor of Amber McCreary, 11, a student at the school.

McCreary, who has Lenox Gastaut Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy, will require several blood transfusions when she undergoes surgery for scoliosis in January.

The blood drive will be conducted by the Central Blood Bank. For appointments, contact PTOPresident Judy Geist at 724-352-0076.

SRU donates money to fire departmentsSLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University donated money to fire departments that service the university.The SRU trustees on Friday voted to donate $15,000 to the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department, to be shared with the rescue squad.They also approved a $1,000 donation to be shared by the Stoneboro Volunteer Fire Department and the Sandy Lake Volunteer Fire Department, which provide protection at the McKeever Environmental Learning Center operated by SRU.
