Margaret Stanley

Margaret Louise "Peg" Preston Stanley, 91, of Harrisburg, formerly of East Brady, died Friday.

Born May 24, 1916, in East Brady, she was one of 11 children born to Walter John and Elizabeth Rettig Preston.

She graduated from high school in 1934 and had been a varsity basketball player and cheerleader. She was known as a terrific dancer and had won several Charleston competitions. She was well known for her baking and enjoyed swimming, water skiing and reading.

Mrs. Stanley retired from the cafeteria of the East Brady High School in 1986. She had previously had worked at an East Brady grocery store and was a former tax collector.

Mrs. Stanley was a 72-year member of St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, East Brady. Upon moving to the Harrisburg area, she became a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Enola.

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Stanley-Swope of Mechanicsburg; and two grandsons, John E. Swope of Bozeman, Mont., and David P. Swope. She also is survived by a brother, Paul Preston of Alexandria, Va.; and a sister, Emma O'Brien of Surfside Beach, S.C.

Her husband, John H. Stanley, whom she married May 16, 1942, preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by eight siblings.

<B>Stanley</B> — Friends of Margaret "Peg" Preston Stanley, who died Friday, April 13, 2007, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, East Brady. AMass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. William Kuba as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Eusebius Catholic Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Eusebius Catholic Church, East Brady, PA 16028, or to the Ecumenical Community, 624 Wilhelm Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Richardson Funeral Home</B>, Enola.
