Reid Kelly, 81, of Butler passed away Saturday at his home with his family by his side.

Born May 27, 1927, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Edward and Choral Kelly.

He was a graduate of Dormont High School and attended Muskingum College, where he was a member of the Stag fraternity, and the University of Wisconsin.

He served aboard the USS Intrepid in the Pacific Theater in World War II and then was in the Naval Reserve until 1955.

In September 1949, he married the late Norma Staaf of Butler.

He joined Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church and remained a member there until his death, serving as an ordained elder and chair of the finance committee of the session for years.

He was a 50-year plus Mason, belonging to Victory Lodge 694. He belonged to the Syria Shrine, where he earned the Hillbilly degree and served as a Road Runner taking children to and from Shriner's hospitals in Erie and Cincinnati. He also volunteered with the MVP group of Mellon Retirees and was a member of the Order of the Moose and the American Legion.

Mr. Kelly served as a Butler Township Commissioner, where he assisted in the early stages of planning for the new township building and as a longtime member of the Butler Planning Commission.

During his tenure on the Butler Area Transit Authority Board, he was a driving force behind the financially sound revitalization of "The Bus." He delivered Meals on Wheels as well as serving on the its board of directors.

During his younger years, Mr. Kelly coached several Little League and Pony League baseball teams, including at least one perfect season with the Meridian Bears.

He retired from Mellon Bank as assistant vice president and manager of the Mount Royal Boulevard Office after more than 30 years of service. Ten years later, he worked for Ritenour's Equipment Co. delivering lawn and farm machinery for "something to do."

He is survived by three daughters, Pam Kelly Parmenter of Butler, Cindy Morey and her husband, Ken, of Cochranton and Nancy McKnight of Magnolia, Texas; a son; seven grandchildren, Ed and Joe Parmenter, Kelly DeMatt Levere and her husband, Mike, Johanna DeMatt and her fiance, Casey McBride, and Katie, Blake and Carrie McKnight; three sisters-in-law and a dear brother-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

Preceding Mr. Kelly in death are his wife, Norma, on June 14, 1994; an infant daughter, Amy Louise; and a brother, Donald.

<B>KELLY</B> — A private memorial service and celebration of the life of Reid Kelly, who died Saturday, July 26, 2008, will be held later.
