Butler Gold wins UYFL grid crown
Landon Dubyak rushed for 210 yards and four touchdowns Saturday night as the Butler Gold varsity rolled to a 35-6 win over Pine White in the United Youth Football League varsity Super Bowl.
The game was played at Highlands stadium in Natrona Heights and marked the first Super Bowl appearance and win by a Butler varsity team.
“This is the culmination of many years of hard work by a whole lot of people,” Butler Gold coach Justin Miller said.
“We've been trying to make the program better through consistency in what we're doing.”
Dubyak also caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from Doug Tapager. Tapager rushed for 55 yards and Joel McCloskey added five yards on the ground.
Defensively, Butler Gold forced six turnovers. James Musser forced three fumbles and recovered two of them. Hunter MacDonald recovered the other.
“We played our best defensive game of the season. We saved our best for last,” Miller said.
JunJun Andrada, Dubyak and Micah Shay intercepted passes for Butler Gold, which ended the season with an 8-3 record.
Landon Christie had a quarterback sack.
“And even though he didn't have an interception, Casey Miller was our shut-down corner all night,” Miller said.
Butler Gold had a 23-6 lead at halftime and never trailed.
