Forage management workshop slated Tuesday

Penn State Extension will host a forage management workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the U.S. Department of Agriculture service center, located at 625 Evans City Road.

The workshop will cover a variety of topics, including soil testing and interpreting those results, weed and disease identification and management strategies.

Later, the workshop will focus on pasture management, starting with the basics such as calculating forage needs and available feed from pastures. The session will then move into developing rotational grazing systems and highlight intensive pasture management and fence and water considerations across the different scenarios.

Hay management will also be covered, discussing proper cutting heights, fall management for better spring production, nitrogen management, dealing with less than ideal haymaking conditions and when to reseed.

The workshop costs $5 and includes lunch and light refreshments in the morning. For more information and to register, visit https://extension.psu.edu/forage-management-workshop.
