South Butler DARE essay winner named

Jamey Palmer

The winner of the South Butler Intermediate Elementary School DARE essay contest is Jamey Palmer, daughter of Justin and Jacquelyn Palmer of Jefferson Township.

At the completion of the annual fifth-grade program, the students are asked to write an essay about what they have learned about the effects of drugs and alcohol and their personal resolve to avoid them

First-, second- and third-place winning essays are selected in each fifth-grade classroom, and an overall winner is chosen from those essays, said Jenny Webb, South Butler County School District communications director.

Butler County Sheriff's Deputy Bret Vulakovich runs the DARE program each year at South Butler Intermediate Elementary School.

Normally, a countywide winning essay is named from among schools in Butler County, but the coronavirus pandemic precluded that contest from occurring this year, Webb said.
