Due to the forecast of cold and very rainy weather, the Audubon Society has canceled Saturday’s Creatures of the Night event at the Buffalo Creek Nature Center, 154 Monroe Road, Sarver.

MARS — The Mars Public Library, 107 Grand Ave., has scheduled the following events for November:

5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 —Writing workshop with Chris Churilla, a local children’s book author and Mars School District teacher and librarian.

6 p.m. Nov. 8 — “Canals, Railroads and Repudiation in Western Pennsylvania.” Walk through the turbulent history of how Pennsylvania has funded canals and railroads. Register at the library or call 724-625-9048.

4:30 p.m. Nov. 15 — Author Chris Churilla presents a special story time. Join the local author, who will read two of his books. Refreshments will be served. Register at the library or call 724-625-9048.

10:30 a.m. Nov. 17 — “STEAM Saturdays — Bridges.” The program lasts 1 to 1.5 hours and is geared toward a K-4 audience. Register at the library or call 724-625-9048.

CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Public Library, 2525 Rochester Road, welcomes Kim Maravich, RN at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 to discuss topics from her book, “360 Health: Your Guide to Cancer Prevention, Healing Foods and Total Body Wellness.”

She will discuss foods that heal the body, which foods to avoid for disease prevention, worthwhile supplements, avoidance of toxins, easy ways to detoxify the body and lifestyle factors that improve health.

[naviga:h3]School food drive ends Nov. 16[/naviga:h3]

MARS — Mars Area Elementary School will conduct its annual food drive from Oct. 29 through Nov. 16.

Donations of nonperishable food items may be dropped off at the school’s main office, 549 Route 228, Monday through Friday, during school hours. Collected items will be distributed to local families in need.
