First event coming to Sprankle Woods this weekend
Strawberries are in season in Pennsylvania, and southeastern Butler County will be celebrating with a festival, which will be the first event to take place at the new Sprankle Woods venue.
The Strawberry Moon Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9, at 340 Riemer Road, Jefferson Township, with a goal of kicking off summer with a focus on holistic and natural health.
Kylie Troyan, co-host of the Strawberry Moon Festival, said she and her friend, Carrie Irvine, came up with the idea to host vendors and activities relating to natural health and ran with it. The result is a plan to have food and craft vendors, live music, yard games, fire pits and other summertime programs.
“It is a mashup of a bunch of different things, but that's why we think it will be great for families,” Troyan said Tuesday. “It's very much a festival you can come get something to eat, do some shopping. We're going to have a bunch of yard games.”
Admission to the event is $5 for people over 12 years old, but Troyan said there will be plenty of activities alongside vendors to keep people entertained.
There will be drum circles, yoga classes, a class teaching people how to grow mushrooms inside a log, tarot readings and a dunk tank at the event, the last of which will be hosted by Knoch High School cheerleaders and the wrestling team.
Troyan also said there will be healers and energy specialists at the event. Additionally, some area nonprofits will be set up at the festival, with some offering activities of their own.
The Strawberry Moon Festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, with bands continuing to play until 10 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Troyan said the venue is a “ginormous open field,” with a field also acting as its parking lot.
The name of the festival comes from the full moon in June that represents strawberry harvest season. Troyan said the Strawberry Moon is a cosmic event that coincides with the season, signifying the beginning of summer.
“We're very excited to see it,” Troyan said.
Troyan said she and Irvine created a Facebook event page for the Strawberry Moon Festival, which contains more information and vendor updates. Troyan also said the event takes place rain or shine.
