Cranberry Township woman accused of opening credit cards with personal information
A Cranberry Township woman, who was sentenced last year for taking nearly $19,000 from dental patient, is now facing new charges related to opening credit cards under another person’s identity.
Kimberly R. Cook, 59, was charged Friday, May 31, with five counts of felony identity theft, seven counts of felony access device fraud, 12 counts of felony theft and two counts of misdemeanor theft.
Police said the charges were filed after a woman contacted Cranberry Township police saying she discovered numerous credit cards were opened in her name by Cook.
Police were notified Jan. 11 that Cook added herself as an authorized user on three credit cards without permission.
Police said the woman was unaware of the activity as the cards are not frequently used.
In addition, police said Cook opened four credit cards in the woman’s name using her Social Security number.
Cook used her personal email address as the primary contact for all seven of the cards she was using and was making payments on them, police said.
The accounts held a combined $30,314 balance on a combined $29,800 credit limit, police said, and two of the cards were found in Cook’s purse.
In relation to previous charges, Cook was sentenced to serve 30 to 60 months in state prison and pay $153,496 in restitution after pleading guilty to felony theft charges on Oct. 19, 2023.
Court documents indicate she had been charged by Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police for stealing $73,344 from Hines Ward’s Table 86 restaurant in Seven Fields, where she was employed.
Police said she took cash payments from customers, but rang up the sales as gift card transactions and kept the cash for herself from August 2015 through the end of October 2017. The restaurant closed in 2019.
In a second case, Cook was sentenced to serve time and pay restitution to Generational Dental Associates of Cranberry Township after pleading guilty to a theft by unlawful taking charge filed by Cranberry Township police in May 2023.
Police said Cook worked at the dental office as a clerk beginning in 2021 and stole cash payments from patients and entered credit card payments for the transactions. Some patients told police that Cook encouraged them to pay in cash.
In regard to the Friday charges, Cook’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
