Two vehicles crashed at the intersection of Routes 19 and 228 in Cranberry Township at about 12:45 p.m. Friday. Seven people were hurt and taken to hospitals. No names were released.

CRANBERRY TWP — A two-vehicle crash injured seven people Friday afternoon in Cranberry Township.

The crash occurred around 12:45 p.m. at the intersection between Routes 19 and 228.

Township public safety director Jeff Schueler said the injuries were “not that serious.”

Some people were taken to UPMC Mercy while others were taken to Allegheny General Hospital.

It is unknown how many people were in each vehicle.

“Now, the big thing is getting traffic moving again,” Schueler said at the crash scene.

He said the crash involved a Mitsubishi Eclipse that was turning onto Route 228 and a Dodge Caravan that was turning onto Route 19.

The Mitsubishi suffered heavy front end damage while the Dodge suffered heavy driver’s side damage.

Police are still investigating. It is not known if charges will be filed.

Schueler said the Dodge’s driver’s side door needed to be removed to free the driver.

Route 19 northbound was closed and rescue workers did traffic control while other personnel cleaned up the wreckage.

Both vehicles were towed away and traffic resumed normal flow around 1:30 p.m.

Township police, firefighters and EMS assisted at the scene.

Police did not release the names of the injured people.
