Joseph Waggoner Jr.
Joseph I. Waggoner Jr., 92, of Hampton Township died peacefully Wednesday at his daughter's home in Lansdale, Pa.
He was born July 14, 1917, in Pittsburgh to the late Rose (Wallisch) and the late Joseph I. Waggoner Sr.
Mr. Waggoner had a master's degree in sociology, and he worked as a community developer and director of urban renewal for Butler County.
His varied careers included federal government service with the U.S. State Department in Afghanistan, where he was an athletic director teaching various sports and building goodwill. He also taught sociology at the Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh.
He is a U.S. Army veteran, who served in World War II.
He had the amazing capacity to garner lifelong friends and always inspired others with his generous spirit and zest for life. He is remembered fondly for being a great football coach to youth.
He enjoyed golf, gardening, AARP bus trips and was an avid sports fan, especially the Steelers. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family at the farm in Saxonburg.
He will be missed by his fellow members of St. Ursula Roman Catholic Church.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Cindy) Waggoner of Glenshaw; a daughter, Sharon (Marc) Rost of Lansdale; a daughter, Susan M. Waggoner of Pittsburgh; and grandchildren, Jennifer Mason, Brittany Rost, Brandon Rost, Andrew Mason, Aliyah Mason and Abbigail Mason. Also surviving are a sister, Catherine (Harry) Hagerman of Pittsburgh, and his sister-in-law, Catherine Waggoner of Pittsburgh.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Marion (Daley) Waggoner. They were married Aug. 29, 1950, in Pittsburgh, and she died in 1992. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Lawrence Waggoner, William Waggoner and Edward Waggoner.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ursula Church, 3937 Kirk Avenue No. 2, Allison Park, with Bishop William Winter as celebrant.
