Prospect library to hold used book, goody sale
Thousands of books of every genre will be sold next weekend at bargain basement prices.
The Prospect Community Library Book & Bake Sale will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 12; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Prospect Fire Hall, 373 Main St., Prospect.
Shari Hunt, library director, said the books fill up the entire fire hall, with room for patrons to move comfortably between the rows.
“The boxes are stacked three to four high in our basement right now,” she said.
Nothing is priced more than $1 at the sale.
On Friday, patrons will have a chance to win a free bag of books every 30 minutes, and a $5 bag sale is planned for Saturday, Hunt said.
Delicious baked items will be whipped up by local residents and members of PCL Bookends, which is the library’s volunteer group.
Hunt said cookies, scones, cupcakes, and slices of cake and pie, among other sweets, will be available for $1 each.
“Whatever people end up bringing, that’s what we sell,” she said.
Discount cards, redeemable at golf courses, restaurants and a plethora of businesses around the county, will be sold for $10.
“The library gets half of that,” Hunt said.
Two baskets with a theme of organization will be raffled as well.
Some video games, DVDs and audio books also will be available for purchase, Hunt said.
She said the sale, which requires 10 to 15 volunteers to pull off, usually brings in $1,400 to $1,700 for the library.
“It’s very helpful,” Hunt said. “We need every penny we can get, just like any other nonprofit right now.”
The 1,500-square-foot library boasts more than 14,000 items, plus public computers.
The library’s area is Prospect as well as Muddy Creek and Franklin townships.
