HARMONY — A Seneca Valley High School senior has been named as a semifinalist in the 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Daniella Ortiz, 16, of Harmony is among 50 other students statewide and 1,600 black students across the country with this honor. There will be 1,300 finalists named early next year.

The scholarship program was initiated in 1964, according to a statement from the group, “to recognize academically promising black students throughout the nation and to provide scholarships to a substantial number of the most outstanding program participants.”
