Henry Tenerowicz
Henry Thomas Tenerowicz, of Butler, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of Patti, his wife of 60 years, on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
Henry was born in Ford City at the family home on Sept. 6, 1937, as the parade passed by on Labor Day, to parents Walter and Clara Jamro Tenerowicz, who came to the U.S. through Ellis Island from Poland. Henry was the last of six siblings, Walter, Carl, Ann, Elizabeth and Eleanor. He was very proud of his Polish heritage and spent a month in Poland seeking relatives. Henry spoke fluent Polish and belonged to the Polish Falcons of Ford City.
He graduated from Ford City High School and served in the U.S. Air Force with the military police, on the Air Force basketball team, and was an Armco retiree of 35 years.
Henry was an active outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman, traveling the U.S. and Canada. He enjoyed horseback elk hunting in Wyoming and trout fishing. He loved his chocolate lab, Country, and his cottage in rural Cook Forest. He was an avid Steelers season ticket holder, attending two Steelers Super Bowls.
He was a member of St. Faustina Parish, St. Christopher Catholic Church in Prospect from its onset, and volunteered at the annual summer festivals. He served as a former usher, and was part of the Men’s Club and the finance and pastoral councils. He was a devout Catholic all of his life, beginning as a little altar boy.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Kotvas Tenerowicz. They were married with all the Polish and Slovak marriage traditions of Mass and three days at the Kotvas family farm in West Leechburg with 836 guests, no RSVPs!
He is also survived by the Kovac kids, Yvonne, Debbie, Diane, Keith, and their families; the Tenerowicz families; the Kotvas farm families, Len, John, Mert and Steven; eight godchildren; his 1956 Ford City classmates; hunting and fishing buddies; Armco friends and great neighbors. Henry was loved!
Henry was a gentle, kind, loving, friendly, humorous man, much loved by many and will be greatly missed, especially by family young and old.
