Karns City runs past Punxsutawney, 42-8, for another road win
Karns City rushed for 250 yards as a team in wearing out Punxsutawney, 42-8, for its second consecutive football road win Friday night.
The Gremlins (2-0) had a 28-0 lead by halftime and scored early in the third quarter to put the mercy rule in effect.
“I'm very pleased with the caliber of football we're playing right now,” KC coach Joe Sherwin said. “We're running the ball well and a lot of people are scoring touchdowns.”
Zach Blair got the Gremlins on the board first with a 45-yard touchdown run. Luke Garing scored on a 2-yard burst.
When Punxsutawney fumbled the kickoff, KC sophomore Zach Kelly scooped up the ball and took it in for a score. Luke Cramer scored the fourth touchdown on a 2-yard run.
Jayce Anderson led the Gremlins in rushing for a second straight week. He returned a kickoff 70 yards as well, but did not score on the play.
Punxsutawney played its first game of the season. Karns City plays its first home game next Friday, facing Central Clarion.
“It will be nice to get back home,” Sherwin said. “We're off to a good start.”
Landon Mohney had three goals and an assist as Butler opened its season with an 8-1 win over DuBois.Evan Lubinsky contributed a goal and two assists while Carson Knight and Tyler Rekich both had a goal and assist. Griffin Holcombe and Aiden Wisda added goals.Jack Beneigh, Aidan Soley and Cody Lubinsky had assists for the Golden Tornado.
