Fred “Woody” Wood, 84, of Butler, passed on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Woody was born in the Eau Claire area on Dec. 8, 1939, and graduated from Moniteau High School in 1957. He went on to graduate from Slippery Rock State College in 1965. In the mid-1970s, he began his 25-plus year career at Armco Steel. After retiring in 2002, he enjoyed substituting at several local schools for the next 20 years.

He was a devoted family man who enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams. He loved Mopar cars, history, nature, reading and family beach vacations, especially at Topsail Island, N.C.

Woody was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Wood; and is survived by his children, Shane (Leeann) Wood and Shawna (Michael) Leahey; two granddaughters, Kiersten Wood and Kierra (Matt) Archibald; his great-grandson, Shea Ellis; one sister, Elaine Kolbrick; and a nephew and niece.

The family of Woody would like to thank the intensive care unit at Butler Memorial Hospital, Dr. Melissa Cyr and her staff, and Dr. Dean Lomago and his staff for their excellent care.

WOOD — Family and friends of Fred “Woody” Wood, who died Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.
