Shirley Haug

Haug

Shirley (Otterson) Haug, 88, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late W. Robert Haug.

Born on Jan. 10, 1936, in Butler, to the late Oscar and Ruth (Eberhardt) Otterson, Shirley grew into a woman of warmth and generosity, whose life was characterized by her caring nature and artistic spirit.

Shirley's journey began as a student at Butler High School, where she laid the foundation for a life of service to others. Her compassion led her to nursing school, where she honed her skills to care for those in need. Her career was largely spent at Muhlenberg Hospital, where she worked until her well-deserved retirement. There, she touched the lives of countless individuals with her gentle care and unwavering dedication.

An artist at heart, Shirley found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her hands were rarely still, as she was constantly immersed in arts and crafts. She had a particular fondness for painting, which allowed her to express her love for the beauty of nature she so adored. Her collection of Shirley Temple dolls was a hobby that brought her great happiness, each doll a cherished member of her home. Shirley's love for the open road was well-known among her family and friends. She relished going for car rides, taking in the scenery and appreciating the world's natural splendor. Above all, her daughters and her family were her greatest passion. Her love for them was boundless and was the true masterpiece of her life.

Family was the cornerstone of Shirley's world. She is survived by her loving daughters, Sheri Lynn Stehly and her companion, Jack Barras, Linda Clearie and her husband, Kevin, and Cynthia Fenza and her husband, Joseph, all of Bethlehem. Shirley's role as a grandmother was one she cherished deeply, and she leaves behind her adoring grandchildren, Tanya Conti Vasquez and her husband, Michael, and their daughter, Amelia, Kristy Conti, Matthew R. Fenza and his fiancée, Katherine, and Robert A. Fenza. Each of them will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness. Shirley's family circle also included her beloved kitty cat, Oscar, a furry companion who brought her much joy.

Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, David and John Otterson.
