Peggy A. Smith, 88, of Chicora, passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 29, 2024, in the comfort of her home, in the company of her loving family.

Peggy was born in Applewold, Armstrong County, on Jan. 14, 1936. She was the daughter of the late George and Cleo Lambing Taylor.

She was a 1953 graduate of Kittanning High School and a member of the Chicora United Methodist Church.

Peggy was married in Kittanning on Oct. 23, 1953, to Edward J. Smith Sr.

Mr. Smith preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1990.

Peggy looked forward to the company of her family, most especially the visits and care she received from “Sissy.” In her earlier years, she had been employed by the Villa Restaurant and Chicora Medical Center, and she retired from Sunnyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Butler. She was active with the job closet program in AmeriCorps, helping find clothing for those going to job interviews and enjoyed having been “Queen for the Day” at the Clearview Mall. Peggy and her friend, Priscilla Angert, enjoyed portraying Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

She is survived by four children, Ann Livengood (Dave) of Ford City, Amy Stevenson of Chicora, Dorinda “Dee” Quinn and her husband, Jim, of Cortland, Ohio, and Shaun Smith and his wife, Rhonda, of Fenelton. She was affectionately “Grandma Peg” to her 21 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jamie Lynn (Johnny), Ryan (Nicole), Justin (Kendra), Braden, Skylar, Shannon, Chris, Anne, Morgan, Kaylee, Codi, Isabelle, Bryson, Bria “Sissy,” J.J., Coby, Mia, Orin, Oliver, Brandon and Louie. Also surviving is a brother, Ralph Taylor of Kittanning; and sister, Beverly “Boo” Kemp of Worthington; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward J. Smith Jr.; her grandson, Eddie; one brother; and two sisters.

SMITH — A private funeral service for Peggy A. Smith, who died Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, officiated by the Rev. Beverly Roscoe, pastor of the Chicora United Methodist Church, will be held at HILE FUNERAL HOME OF CHICORA.
