Julia Castelnuovo
Julia T. “Julie” Castelnuovo, 85, of Mars, formerly of Lower Burrell, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, at Concordia Skilled Nursing Facility in Cabot.
She was born on Sept. 14, 1938, and was a 1956 graduate of Leechburg High School. Julie graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1959 and went on to work as an OB-GYN nurse at Monterey Hospital in California and Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights between 1959 and 1989. She would continue her nursing career working for Dr. Alexander Fetcho in his private practice from 1989 to 1997. Julie was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church in Lower Burrell for 47 years until moving to Mars in 2012 and becoming a parishioner of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish.
Julie was a devoted grandmother who loved watching and supporting her grandchildren in their various activities. As an avid sports fan, she will be remembered for her passion and enthusiasm for all sports. She enjoyed college basketball, Penguins hockey and Pirates baseball. But her greatest joy was cheering on her beloved Steelers in person for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, P. Larry Castelnuovo; her daughter, Janice Swanger and her husband, Stuart, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; her son, Paul Castelnovo and his wife, Kim, of Mars; and five cherished grandchildren, Luke and Laura Swanger and Leah, Mark and Matthew Castelnovo.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Cosmo and Elva D’Andrea; her sister, Joann Andrews; and brother-in-law, Ted Andrews.
CASTELNUOVO — Friends of Julia T. “Julie” Castelnuovo, who died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, will be welcomed by family from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, at McDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, at St. Kilian Church, 7076 Franklin Road, Cranberry Township, with the Rev. Charles Bober, pastor, officiating. Please meet at the church.
Private entombment will be in the mausoleum at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation in Julie's memory.
