Regis Nichter
Regis L. Nichter, 94, of Butler, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1930, to the late Lawrence and Anna (Kohnen) Nichter.
Regis was a devoted husband for 58 years to the late Elizabeth E. (Bikowsky) Nichter.
Regis served as a medic in Germany during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged, he worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 35 years. Regis owned an upholstery business with his good friend William “Bill” McGee. He was a lifetime member of All Saints Parish, Saint Peters Church, where he served as an usher and committee member. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and the 112th Infantry Regiment Association, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Toastmaster International and the American Legion. For 30 years, he volunteered for Moraine Trails Council where he served as a Cubmaster, Troop committee member, district chairman, training committee member, council commissioner and council vice president. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for Moraine Trails Council BSA and the Saint George Emblem from the Diocese of Pittsburgh. He also obtained his private pilot license.
Regis had many hobbies throughout his life. He achieved a perfect bowling score of 300 in the 1970s. He also enjoyed building and working with his hands and learning about technology on his computer, and he loved a good game of golf.
Regis was a proud husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was what is defined as a “Family Man.” Regis is survived by his children, Theresa (Philip) Piroch, Joe (Beth) Nichter, Ronald Nichter and Patricia (Timothy) Gray; and was grandfather of Jacob and Marissa Nichter. He also is survived by his sisters, Catherine (Jack) Mckain and Joan (Jimmy) Haley.
Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Plyler.
NICHTER — Family and friends of Regis L. Nichter, who died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Parish, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. Entombment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
