Mary E. Hupp, 77, of Butler died early Friday morning in Butler Memorial Hospital following an illness.

She was born in Woodard, Okla., a daughter of John and Mary Kinney Vassar.

She was one of the first to work at Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Kansas City, where she worked as a secretary in the collections department.

She was a member of the Faith Fellowship Alliance Church in Butler.

She is survived by her husband, Lynn R. Hupp, who she married June 29, 1956; one son, Charles Hupp of Butler; two daughters, Vicky Butler of Butler and Christine Charlton and her husband, George, of Portersville; 10 grandchildren, Steven (Vicki) Charlton, Charissa (Marty) Charlton Doyle, Justin (Amber)Charlton, Katie (Michael) Butler Decker, Carla (Steven) Butler Cox, Kelly (Joshua) Butler Christie, Kathy (Joshua) Butler Wood, Rachael Hupp, Geoffrey Hupp, and Robert Hupp; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Vassar and Oliver William Vassar, both of Kansas City, Mo., and James Vassar of Kansas City, Kan.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Dean and Julia Kaylor.

<B>HUPP</B> — Friends of Mary E. Hupp, who died Friday, July 25, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Fellowship Alliance Church, 200 Faith Way (Fared Drive), Butler. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Richard Jenks, pastor, officiating.
