Charles ‘Tom’ Hiles
Charles T. “Tom” Hiles, 75, of Sarver, formerly of Queenstown, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, at Fair Winds Manor, Sarver.
Born April 18, 1948, in Queenstown, he was the son of Charles L. and Mary Katherine (Uenking) Hiles.
A graduate of Karns City High School, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1967 to 1971. He spent his career as an over-the-road truck driver working for Pennzoil and Matalack.
On Feb. 16, 1973, Tom married the former Doris L. Crosby. She survives.
Tom was a member of the Harvest Baptist Church in Natrona Heights, the Teamsters union, the VFW Post 7073 Parker, and the Bradys Bend American Legion Post 488.
He was also a supporter of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Burnt Ridge Rod and Gun Club, he enjoyed woodworking, watching Westerns and wrestling. You could find Tom every morning, reading the daily paper and the Bible.
Tom is survived by his wife, Doris L. Hiles of Sarver; five sons, David and Amanda Hiles of Kittanning, Bill and Heather Hiles of Petrolia, Jonathan and Paulette Hiles of Cowansville, Tim and Emily Hiles of Butler and Micah Hiles of Slippery Rock; and 13 grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Clayton, Karley, George, Tyler, Ryan, Alyssa, Gracie, Max, Kirsten, Kenzie and Allie.
He is also survived by two sisters, Nancy and John Buzard of Rimersburg and Sues and Robert Vensel of Bruin; his mother-in-law, Betty Crosby of Brookville; and his faithful canine companion, Ginger.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
HILES — Friends of Charles T. “Tom” Hiles, who died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at BUECHELE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 707 Kellys Way, East Brady.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Miller, of the Harvest Baptist Church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the Hiles family asks that memorials be made in Tom‘s name to the Harvest Baptist Church, 224 Harvest Lane, Natrona Heights, PA 15065.
