Police: Woman burglarized Chicora home for rolled coins
A homeowner returned home to discover a woman had broken in and was removing rolls of quarters and half dollars from the residence Monday, Dec. 18, according to police.
State police charged Tashawa L. Francis, 31, of Chicora, with felonies burglary and criminal trespass, and misdemeanor theft after she allegedly entered someone’s home and attempted to take more than $90 worth of coins.
According to charging documents, the homeowner left her residence at 9 a.m. Monday, and noticed Francis near the home.
When the homeowner returned a short time later, she found Francis crouched in a corner of a darkened bedroom, police said. Francis fled the residence, and the homeowner found a pillowcase near where she had been.
Later, Francis appeared on the woman’s doorstep with a roll of quarters and half dollar coins, saying she had taken them, police said. Documents showed Francis asked for the pillowcase back, which the homeowner provided.
Police said they contacted Francis and she admitted to entering the residence without permission. Francis handed the investigating officer a bandanna full of half dollar and quarter rolls during the interview, document showed.
Francis’ preliminary hearing is scheduled Dec. 26 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
