Oakland Township’s new budget lower than previous year’s

Oakland Township supervisors passed a 2024 budget on Dec. 6, with expected expenses totaling a little over $1.32 million, which is lower than the 2023 budget’s projected $1.44 million in expenses.

The budget’s expected expenses are balanced by expected revenues, and the township is carrying over about $517,000 from last year, and administrators plan to carry over $133,000 from the 2024 budget into the next year. Other revenue is coming from earned income tax, accounting for about $365,000; a state Department of Transportation grant reimbursement, accounting for $148,000; and real estate tax, accounting for $125,000.

Road and bridge maintenance is the biggest expense at $375,960, and building expenses account for $325,000. Road crew expenses also cost a projected $81,000, and the secretary/treasurer costs the township $42,000 for the year.

The supervisors also plan to use $250,000 in liquid fuels money for winter maintenance and road and bridge maintenance next year. About $40,000 in liquid fuels is going to be carried over into 2025.
