2:36 a.m. Sunday — Jack R. Gregg, 32, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 422. Gregg also was cited for reckless driving.

Sunday — An unknown thief took a wallet and two other items after breaking into a car in the 400 block of Summit Street. Also taken was a pill container with only sugar pills, and an inhaler.The wallet was later found in a neighbor's yard. The unrecovered items are valued at $21. The theft happened between Saturday evening and early Sunday.Thursday — A Grove City woman was conned out of about $7,500 in a scam that has played out successfully across the country.The woman received a call from someone pretending to be her son's lawyer and that he was in jail in Mercer County. The “lawyer” gave the phone to her “son” and made the story convincing, a police report said.The “son” stated several times not to tell anyone about the situation because he was embarrassed. The victim then sent the money to Spain via Western Union thinking she was bailing her son out of jail.Only when it was too late did the woman discover that her son was never in jail and the story was contrived to steal her money.“These scams are very difficult to investigate,” the police report noted, “and rarely is the money returned.”

5:30 a.m. Feb. 29 — One person was hurt in a two-car wreck in Pine Township.The crash happened when a car driven by Karen Strouss, 28, of Jackson Center and Cheryl Fedorchak, 38, of Mercer collided at George Junior Road and Route 58. Fedorchak, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to the Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries.Police said Strouss was cited for failing to stop at a flashing red light.<B></B>
