Patterson

Wilbur "Dick" R. Patterson, 87, of Mercer/Butler Pike, Liberty Township, Grove City, died at 2 a.m. Friday at the Grove City Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born Jan. 28, 1928, he was the son of Wilbur and Mary Rebecca Beatty Patterson.

He retired in 1984 from Yobe Electric in Hermitage, where he was a mechanic.

He attended the First Baptist Church in Grove City.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He served as crew chief on "Miss America," a B-29 in the South Pacific.

His hobby was his family and he enjoyed spending time with them. He was creative and could fix anything.

He is survived by his wife, Della Mae Welton Patterson, who he married Aug. 23, 1994; six children, Wayne Patterson and his wife, Lana, of Sebastian, Fla.; Patricia Montgomery and her husband, Richard, of Harrisville; Cindy Buchanan and her husband, Dan, of Harrisville; Bonnie McCartney and her husband, Clair, of Hadley; Wendy Chamberlain and her husband, James, of Auburn, N.Y.; and Mike Patterson of Farrell. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy McNeish and Phyllis Osborne and her husband, Harry, all of Grove City; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Patterson; and three sisters, Ruth Carothers, Jane Midberry and Mildred Webster.

Patterson, who died Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Johnson, pastor of First Baptist Church in Grove City.Burial will be in North Liberty Cemetery.
