John Cammisa

John Joseph Cammisa, 92, of Butler, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Butler on June 24, 1931, he was a son of the late Michele and Costantina DiIasio Cammisa.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean War.

He was retired from Armco.

John was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. He was a longtime church volunteer. He was active as an altar server and choir member, and he belonged to 55 & Alive.

An avid hunter and fly fisherman, John formerly served as a commissioner on the Pennsylvania Fish Commission. He traveled throughout the United States, fishing in every major river. He also taught many fly fishermen how to tie flies. In addition, he handcrafted bamboo fishing rods under his brand JC Rods and won numerous awards for his outstanding work.

Always active, John was also a bulk newspaper hauler for the Butler Eagle.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret T. Krauchak Cammisa, whom he married May 3, 1952; five children, Theresa Lasichak and her husband, Andrew, of Butler, John E. Cammisa and his wife, Terri, of Butler, Constance Edwards and her husband, James, of Butler, Anthony M. Cammisa and his wife, Bobbi, of Butler, and Jennifer Roland and her husband, David, of Clinton, Pa.; six grandchildren, Nicole, Hailey, Nicholas, Madison, Markie Jean and Maxwell; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Christopher Lasichak; one great-grandson, Will Laslovic; five brothers; and one infant sister.

CAMMISA — There will be no visitation for John Joseph Cammisa, who died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler, with the Rev. Kevin C. Fazio officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to All Saints Parish, 128 N. McKean St., Butler, PA 16001.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler.
