Lee Kelly Mason, 86, of Buffalo Township, passed away Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at home surrounded by his family.

The son of the late Charles W. Mason and Myrtle (Kelly) Mason, he was born Aug. 31, 1937, in Sarver. Lee graduated from Freeport High School, Class of 1955. He was a veteran, having served in the Navy and the Naval Reserve from 1955 to 1963 before being honorably discharged.

In 1966, he opened Mason’s Mobil Gas & Service Station in Cabot, which he operated until 1984. In 1977, he and his brother Bill Mason established Jeffries and Mason Inc., leasing heavy equipment to Conrail, that they operated together until 1992. In 1999, Lee opened and operated Masons Auto Sales until 2005 when he retired. Lee was a devoted family man, who enjoyed family gatherings, especially Christmas, playing cards (500 bid), hunting and following the Steelers, even to a few Super Bowls.

Lee leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Mary (Vero) Mason, whom he married on Aug. 20, 1966, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Lee is also survived by his four children, Kelly (Paula) Mason of Sarver, and their two children, Hannah and Jack; Mary Bridget (Rich) Teeman of Sarver, and Bridget’s three children, Cody, Tyler and Mason Whisinnand; Christy (Erik) Beach of Sarver, and their three children, Grace, Emma and Sadie; and Michael (MaryCate) Mason, and their three children, Liam, Kieran and Isla.

Lee is also survived by his sister, Rose (Don) Heilbrun of California; and many loving nephews, nieces and cousins.

Lee, the youngest of eight children, will be reunited with his parents; his brothers, Bill Mason, Bob Mason and Tom Mason; and his sisters, Dorlores Kunselman, Ann Krings and Rita Shelton.

Lee will be remembered by friends and family for his ability to discover happiness in life's little moments and his consistent willingness to provide words of counsel and profound insight to those who had the privilege of knowing him.

MASON — A Mass of Christian burial for Lee Kelly Mason, who died Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 315 Stoney Hollow Road, Cabot, with Father Jim Kurtz, OFM Cap., officiating. Everyone please meet at the church.

Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Herman.
