Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E. Jefferson St. will celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper during the Sunday worship service, the first Sunday of Advent. The loose change offering will be received.

The church will decorate for Christmas at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 3.

FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN

First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St., will have a Thanksgiving eve service today at 7:30 p.m.

The church office will be closed Thursday and Friday.

The church year will begin with Advent services Sunday. The choir will sing at the 8:30 a.m. worship service.

Director Harry Cunnigham will lead the presentation of “The Messiah” at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church in New Castle.

There will be an executive committee meeting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

GRACE @ CALVARY LUTHERAN

The worship and music committee of Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, 123 E. Diamond St., will meet at 11 a.m. Friday to prepare the sanctuary for the coming liturgical season.

In the News Bible study will meet for the last time at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Members will mark the beginning of the Advent season with a luncheon after the worship service Sunday.

Members will have a 5:30 p.m. dinner and 6:30 p.m. Bible study Wednesdays in Advent.

Ladies’ night out will be at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at Rock Ann Haven, 141 Greenwood Drive.

GRACEWAY

GraceWay meets at the Center Township Elementary School on Mercer Road.

Lyric Ackelson and Tabitha, Faith and Emily Snyder will provide music during the Sunday worship service.

GraceWay will celebrate the start of the Advent season Sunday.

HILL UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St., will celebrate the first Sunday of Advent by lighting the Advent wreath.

The chancel choir will rehearse at 9 a.m. Sunday and sing during the worship service.

The church office will be closed Thursday and Friday.

The Presbyterian Women are collecting new and gently worn mittens and gloves, hats and scarves, jackets and sweaters and socks for the Keep Me Warm trees.

Reservations for the Dec. 11 Christmas dinner are due by Dec. 5.

MARS UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

The first Sunday of Advent will be celebrated at Sunday services at Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, with the presentation of “Candles and Carols.”

The Reading Martians will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the board room.

MERIDIAN UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., will host its annual community Christmas dinner at 5 p.m. Dec. 4 in McCaslin Hall. A Christmas program will follow in the sanctuary. Deacons will provide the main dish and refreshments. Take 12 servings of a covered dish, salad or dessert to share. To attend, sign up in the library.

The Sarah Elizabeth Circle will meet at 1 p.m. Dec. 1.

OLD UNION PRESBYTERIAN

Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars, will have a fellowship dinner after worship Sunday. Take a covered dish to share.

During Advent, the Sunday school classes will participate in a special intergenerational study. The all-church Advent study, “The Wonder of Christmas” will begin at 9:15 a.m. Dec. 4 in the church library.

St. John’s Lutheran Church of Connoquenessing, 100 Main St., will host the community Thanksgiving eve service today at 7 p.m. The Rev. Bonnie Rupp will give the Thanksgiving message.

The start of Advent will be celebrated at the Sunday worship service. There will be a short congregation meeting after the service.

ST. MARK'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN

St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., will begin the Advent season this weekend. The women’s thank offering will be collected. Rev. Storm will lead all services.

The youth choir will practice at 11:15 a.m. Sunday.
