Newly merged Butler County parish receives new parochial vicar
The Rev. Matthew S. Selzer will be assigned parochial vicar of the newly established Sts. Francis and Clare Parish as part of his official ordination to the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Selzer is one of five ministers who will be ordained by Mark A. Eckman at an Ordination Mass to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Pittsburgh.
The Sts. Francis and Clare Parish will officially come into existence on Wednesday, July 1, through a merger of two Butler County parishes: the St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare of Assisi parishes. The parishes consist of a total of six churches in Clearfield, Oakland, Summit and Winfield townships and Chicora. The merger was announced May 23.
Selzer graduated from North Hills High School in 2015, earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication from the University of Pittsburgh in 2019 and completed theological studies at St. Mary Seminary in Steubenville, Ohio, in the fall of 2025.
Also being ordained on Saturday are the Revs. Brian M. Myler, Erik L. Pintar, Loc Van Tran and Nicholas P. Wytiaz.
Assignments for Selzer and the other four new ministers are effective as of July 13.
The ordination will be livestreamed online on YouTube and on the website of Christian Associates TV.
The newly combined parish will be led by Matt McClain as pastor.
