Knoch tennis trophy case adding on
WEXFORD — To say Knoch senior twin sisters Emily and Lindsey Greb have experience on the tennis court would be stating the obvious.
The duo won the PIAA 2A doubles championship last year. The sisters were freshmen on the Knights’ WPIAL and state title teams in 2020, teamed up to win WPIAL and state doubles crowns in 2021, were part of Knoch’s WPIAL and state championship teams last year. Lindsey Greb teamed with Ally Bauer to win the WPIAL doubles crown last season.
They completed a dominant run through the WPIAL 2A doubles bracket Thursday, defeating Sasha Hoffman and Stella Bosser of Greensburg Salem, 6-1, 6-0, in the finals. Hoffman and Bosser were the lowest seeded duo on the bracket at No. 15.
The Greb sisters were seeded No. 1.
“I thought they (Hoffman and Bosser) played very well and represented themselves well,” Knoch first-year girls tennis coach Cherry Bharati said. “It’s tough being the 15-seed and they battled their way through.
“It’s just that Emily and Lindsey have so much experience, in some cases, much more. It shows on the court.”
Prior to the WPIAL final, the Greb sisters defeated No. 8 seed Rachel Hardek and Sara Miloszewski of Central Valley 10-1, in the quarterfinals, then bested No. 4 seed Peja Cruise and Raven Karlik of Montour 6-1, 6-0, in the semifinal round.
“Our experience playing together was a big factor,” Lindsey said. “Emily and I have been playing doubles together since we were 11 or 12. That helps with our communication on the court and trusting each other.”
Emily agreed.
“Experience was definitely a big advantage for us over some of the teams we were playing,” Emily said. “This is likely the last year Lindsey and I will ever be playing competitive doubles together. We want to make the most of it.”
The Greb sisters advance to the PIAA 2A Doubles Tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club during the first week of November.
“Our goal is definitely to win the thing, but there’s some teams from the Philadelphia area who are very good,” Emily said. “We’ll have to watch out for them.”
“Winning states would be the ultimate finish for us,” Lindsey said. “It’s cool knowing I’ll be playing in my last high school tournament with my sister. To go out there and win it would be fantastic.”
Lindsey Greb will be playing college tennis at Saint Francis University. Emily plans on playing college tennis as well. She is undecided as to that destination.
“I’m looking at all three divisions right now,” Emily said. “I’ll be playing somewhere.”
