Trent Best, a senior infielder/right-handed pitcher at Butler, committed to Marietta College earlier this month to continue his baseball career.

“I’m beyond blessed and excited to announce my commitment to Marietta College,” Best wrote in a post on X. “First I want to thank my family for the endless support and sacrifices. I’d also like to thank my coaches, coach (Josh) Forbes, Jack and Brian Graham, and Coach Albert. And finally I’d like to thank coach Sullivan and the rest of the Marietta coaching staff for giving me this opportunity. #ettaexpress”

Best, who primarily played third base in the spring, paced the WPIAL champion and PIAA runner-up Golden Tornado in batting average (.373) last season, in front of Division I recruits Nolan Stefaniak (.364) and Mavrik Clement (.312). Best’s 18 RBIs were third-most on the team, while his three home runs tied for second.

The Pioneers, who play in Division III and compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference, have sent seven players to the major leagues. They went 13-20 this past spring.

Tyler Sullivan, Marietta’s first-year head coach, spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at the Division I level.
