Norabel M. Cooper, 88, of Butler, formerly of Randy Drive, died at 6:50 a.m. Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Bessemer, Dec. 25, 1919, she was the daughter of George W. Shakely and A. Margarette Ort Shakely.

Her husband, Ralph M. Cooper, whom she married Jan. 28, 1943, died Sept. 19, 1979.

She retired from the staff of the Butler County Planning Commission and previously was employed at Castle Rubber and the Hull Resurfacing Co. She also did substitute teaching of business subjects at seven high schools in Butler County and taught business subjects at The Butler Business College and the Pennsylvania School of Business.

Mrs. Cooper was a member of Christ Outreach Church. She also was a member of the Butler Chapter 45 Order of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Oak Hills Garden Club and the Lions Club Auxiliary.

She enjoyed knitting. She also enjoyed singing in her church choir for more than 60 years and belonged to various choral groups and trios.

Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia D. and her husband, Robert Sybert, of Owings, Md.; two sons, Scott A. Cooper and his wife, Mary, of Butler; and StevenJon Cooper of Renfrew; two grandsons, Kevin Sybert and Skyler Cooper; a sister and her husband, E. Arlene and Herbert Johnson of Norton, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter and two brothers.

<B>Cooper</B> — Friends of Norabel M. Cooper, who died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Andrew Brewer of Christ Outreach Church officiating.
