Working out for a cause

Focused Fitness will hold its annual fitness fundraiser on Oct. 24 to support breast cancer research.

At the Sweat Pink Cardio Party, people can participate in two-plus hours of dance fitness to raise money for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition.

The 2016 goal is to raise $5,000, doubling last year's total.

“It's going to be hard, but I know we can,” said the Butler business owner Abbey Walsh.

Walsh keeps none for her business. Plus, she's been looking for as many sponsors as possible.

Before the dance party begins, participants will be encouraged to visit the photo booth and “Pink Out” station, which is complete with face paint, colored hairspray, and other accessories. Basket raffles and door prizes will be awarded near the end. Even those who can't join in the fitness fun are encouraged to come and participate in the other activities.

“Some people just come for the environment,” Walsh said.

She also assures people that it is perfectly acceptable to take breaks during the workout.

Check out the event Facebook page Sweat Pink 2016 Cardio Party for more information and a link to buy tickets. Tickets in advance cost $30 and include a special edition sweat towel and headband.

The Sweat Pink Cardio Party will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Butler Intermediate High School. The workout will begin at 6 p.m.
