Doris Veihdeffer
Doris May (Jackson) Veihdeffer, 95, of McCandless, formerly Erie, died on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023.
Born on July 1, 1928, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Francis L. and Mary Elizabeth (May) Jackson.
Doris was a graduate of St. Paul's School in Butler and Butler Senior High School, and she was in the first graduating class of nurses at Carlow University, earning a Bachelor of Science in nursing education. She was a former member of St. Jude the Apostle Church, Erie Yacht Club, Nautilus Fitness and Racquetball Club and WISE Investment Club. She was a past volunteer with Regional Cancer Center, St. Jude the Apostle Church, Alliance to the Erie County Dental Association (past president), Friends of St. Mary's Home of Erie (past president), St. Vincent Health Center, Erie Playhouse, Erie Philharmonic and Shriners Hospitals for Children. Doris enjoyed jazz, piano, sailing, tennis, cross-country skiing, reading and investing.
Doris was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Walter J. Veihdeffer, who passed away in 2002; loving mother of Thomas R. (Debi) Veihdeffer, Walter J. (Debbie) Veihdeffer II, David W. (Kelly) Veihdeffer and Mary E. Veihdeffer; grandmother of John Thomas, Amy Elizabeth, Julie Marie, David William II, Lauren Elise and Sydney Nicole; great-grandmother of David William Veihdeffer III; and dear friend of Linda Lese. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by four siblings, the late Sister Patricia Maria Jackson, Sisters of St. Joseph, Robert Leo Jackson, the Rev. Thomas William Jackson and Richard Andrew Jackson.
VEIHDEFFER — Family and friends of Doris May (Jackson) Veihdeffer, who died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, will be welcomed from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at SCHELLHAAS & SONS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 1600 Stone Mansion Drive, Sewickley (Franklin Park/Wexford).
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, Saints John & Paul Catholic Church, 2586 Wexford Bayne Road, Sewickley. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum in Erie.
The family suggests donations by made in memory of Doris to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505 or St. Jude the Apostle Church, 2891 W. 6th St., Erie, PA 16505.
