Center's Flatt will face Lauer in Nov.

CENTER TWP — A former supervisor will have a chance to regain a seat on the board following a win in Tuesday night’s primary.

Ron Flatt, who served as chairman of the board last year, won the Republican Party nomination by gathering 41 percent of the votes cast.

Flatt earned 433 votes, defeating opponents Steve Bash, who received 343 votes, and Kristopher Goas, who received 267 votes.

There were 6 write-in tallies.

Flatt did not campaign for re-election in 2014.

Flatt previously told the Butler Eagle that the township’s roads are a primary concern of his.

“Roadway safety and maintenance is a primary job of municipal government, so it is important to spend our money wisely on roads, and to do what we can to find money in our budget, without raising taxes, to keep our roads safe,” he said.

Flatt will campaign this fall against another man with ties to the municipal government, as Mark Lauer ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

Lauer retired from being foreman of the township’s Public Works department earlier this year.

The winner of the November election will replace Ken Frenchak Jr. on the five-member board. Frenchak did not seek re-election.

Supervisors are elected to six-year terms.
