SLIPPERY ROCK — Jack Hanna will give a lecture and show off some live animals Wednesday night at Slippery Rock University.
He is scheduled to appear from 6 to 9 p.m. in Morrow Field House.
Hanna is director emeritus for the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and has made frequent television and public appearances over the years to educate people about animals. He previously visited SRU in 2009.
The event is sponsored by the University Program Board and is open to both students and the general public.

EVANS CITY — The Evans City Volunteer Fire Department responded Friday night to a kitchen fire in a mobile home.A man at 321 E. Main St., was cooking food that boiled over and started his stove on fire shortly before 7 p.m., assistant chief Brian Greenawalt said.The fire was extinguished and the damage was contained to the stove and some kitchen cabinets.No one was injured.Since the home is only a few blocks from the fire station on North Jackson Street, the firefighters were able to respond within a couple of minutes, Greenawalt said.
CENTER TWP — The township will begin curbside collection of leaves on Oct. 19. It will continue through Nov. 20.Only leaves in biodegradable paper bags will be collected.The paper bags are available at the township office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The bags must be bought in bundles of 10 for $4 per bundle.Residents also may drop off leaves at the maintenance facility at 150 Henricks Road.
