CRANBERRY TWP — An early morning chimney fire Sunday damaged a house at 8181 Rowan Road, according to Tim Barch, first lieutenant with the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company.

The fire was reported just after 12:30 a.m.

Barch said the fire originated in the chimney. The fire caused damage on the first and second floors near the chimney and the exterior of the house.

All occupants and pets made it out of the house before firefighters arrived, Barch said. The smoke detectors woke everyone up, he said.

He recommended that residents have their chimneys cleaned to get rid of soot that can cause fires.
