Hughes

Patrick Allen Hughes, 42, passed away peacefully on Sunday Aug. 20, 2023, in Harlingen, Texas.

He was born to Michael and Sylvia Hughes on Oct. 14, 1980, in Butler. Patrick attended TSTC, where he studied culinary arts. He was a youth minister and worked for several local churches.

Left to treasure Patrick's memory are his parents, Michael and Sylvia Hughes; his brother, Sean Hughes; his sister-in-law, Velma Hughes; and his nieces and nephews, Nathan Balli, Ryan Hughes, J J Eads, Annalleli Eads and Megan Eads. Patrick had so many friends he considered family, and he considered their children to be nieces and nephews too! They are too many to mention, but he loved them all. He also had two sisters in love, Jennifer Winton and Cindy Garrett.

Patrick was a kindhearted gentle giant … a friend to everyone he met. He would not hesitate to help a friend in need — either with a little hard work, a simple gesture of coffee at Starbucks or a deep conversation. Patrick was a unique soul who has left his impression on this world to all he knew. The family has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of messages of love and support by the vast amount of people Patrick has touched. Your calls, messages and visits have left us humbled and forever grateful.

Patrick's passion was youth ministry. He worked for several local churches in this capacity.

In lieu of floral arrangements or direct donations, we implore anyone feeling the need to give something to donate to a local youth services program. Patrick was also an avid outdoorsman with a love for nature and hunting. (He was usually the cook at his outdoor adventures!) He believed in the ability for youth to experience what he loved, so if it suits you, please donate to a local hunter's safety program.
