Aryana Girvan had 10 kills Wednesday to help the Butler County Community College volleyball team post a 3-1 season-opening victory at Westmoreland CCC.
Scores were 25-17, 25-22, 16-25, 25-9.
Lexi Ruckdeschel and Zoe Morley had nine kills each while Nina Szymanski tallied 17 digs. The Pioneers travel to Erie on Saturday for an 11 a.m. match vs. Erie and a 1 p.m. match vs. Buffalo.
SRU cross country teams picked 2nd
LOCK HAVEN — Slippery Rock University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams are both picked to finish second in the PSAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Rock men, returning two PSAC top 10 runners in Troy Hart and Ethan Brentham, received three first-place votes, trailing Shippensburg’s 12 first-place votes.
The Rock women, returning five athletes who placed among the top 50 at the 2022 PSAC Championships, received one first place vote. Lock Haven received nine.
Brown wins another in harness racing
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown drove Miss Americana to victory during harness racing action Wednesday at Hollyuwood Casino at The Meadows.
The 3-year-old filly captured a $9,000 Conditioned Trot.
