10 pets rescued in blaze

Fire damages mobile home

WASHINGTON TWP — Firefighters this morning saved 10 pets from a mobile home fire.

Once crews arrived, they brought out three dogs and seven cats, including a litter, from the home at 205 Kane Lane.

Chief Nick Grove of the North Washington Volunteer Fire Company said the blaze seemed to emanate from the kitchen.

“It looks like it might be a stove fire,” Grove said.

He said the flames had spread to the cabinetry and walls.

Grove called a state police fire marshal to determine a cause.

He said none of the occupants — Margaret Burton, Kent Craig and Beth Craig — were home.

Grove said other mobile home residents noticed smoke coming from Burton’s home and called 911.

He said the fire was doused within five minutes.

Grove estimated damages at $20,000.

“The place is still standing,” he said.

However, Grove said the extent of the structural damage has not yet been determined

Roughly 30 firefighters responded to the 7:03 a.m. 911 call.

The West Sunbury, Oneida Valley, Bruin, Petrolia, Marion Township and Eau Claire volunteer fire departments assisted North Washington at the scene.

Crews cleared the scene at 8:57 a.m.
