Cygan

John Cygan, 91, a former resident of 111 Carlynn Drive, Renfrew, died Thursday at the Guy and Mary Felt Manor in Emporium.

Born June 13, 1917, in Bredinville, he was a son of the late Metro and Tillie (Sabran) Cygan.

John had worked in the slab mill at Armco Steel in Butler for 38 years, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lyndora, the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 in Butler.

A veteran of World War II, he had served in the Army. John then served in the Army Air Corps from 1938 until 1940 in the Panama Canal Zone, and also had served with the Navy divers as an attached Army engineer, where he was a first class diver helping to clean out Manila Harbor of sunken ships.

He is survived by a stepson, John Micklich and his wife, Marian, of Emporium; three grandchildren, Michele Reed of Emporium, Albie Micklich of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ryan Micklich of Eldred; two great-grandchildren, Jessica Micklich of Greensboro, N.C., and Oliva Aikens of Emporium.

His wife, Marie D. (Malizia) Cygan, who he married Aug. 8, 1964, died Dec. 30, 2004. Six brothers also preceded him in death.

<B>CYGAN </B>— Friends of John Cygan, who died Thursday, July 24, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Paisius McGrath will officiate.
